Italian Wedding Cookies Recipe (Powdered Sugar Coated)
This Italian wedding cookies recipe is a classic buttery cookie made with butter and margarine, baked briefly, then rolled in powdered sugar while still warm. The ingredients are simple and the how-to steps are quick, making it an easy dessert for coffee or tea.
Ingredients
1. For the dough
2. For coating
Step-by-Step Method
Preheat and prep the pan
Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Cream the fats and sugar
Beat the butter, margarine, and 3/4 cup powdered sugar until light. Mix in the salt and vanilla.
Add flour and bring the dough together
Stir in the flour in 2–3 additions. Once it starts to clump, gently press it together with your hands. Don’t overwork it so the cookies stay tender.
Shape the cookies
Scoop out small walnut-size pieces, roll into balls, and place them on the sheet with a little space between each.
Bake
Bake for about 15 minutes. Pull them out when the bottoms are lightly colored and the tops are still pale.
Roll in powdered sugar and cool
Let the cookies sit on the tray for 5 minutes. While warm, roll in powdered sugar, then cool completely on a rack. For a thicker coating, roll again once cooled.
