Step-by-Step Method
Preheat the oven
Heat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Set a pie dish or baking dish nearby so you can assemble quickly.
Mix the grape filling
In a large bowl, combine grapes, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup flour, lemon juice, and salt. Sprinkle the flour in while tossing so it coats evenly.
Briefly thicken the filling
Transfer to a saucepan and cook over medium heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring, until the juices release and the mixture starts to thicken slightly. Don’t let it scorch on the bottom.
Make the crumble topping
Stir oats, brown sugar, and 1/2 cup flour in a bowl. Add cold butter and margarine; rub in with fingertips until you get coarse crumbs.
Assemble
Pour the warm grape filling into the pie dish. Sprinkle the oat crumble evenly over the top so the surface is well covered.
Bake and rest
Bake for 35 minutes, until the top is lightly browned and the edges look bubbly. Let it cool 20–30 minutes so it slices more cleanly.
