Step-by-Step Method

7-step method
01

Preheat the oven

Heat the oven to 180°C (top/bottom). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

02

Make the dough

In a bowl, combine butter, vegetable oil, egg, powdered sugar, salt, and baking powder. Add flour little by little and mix just until you get a soft, non-sticky dough. Stop as soon as it comes together; overmixing can reduce the crumbly texture.

03

Shape quickly

Pinch off small pieces and roll into bite-size balls. Work promptly so the dough doesn’t dry out; you can cover it with a clean towel while shaping.

04

Mix the molasses wash

Stir molasses and water in a small bowl until smooth.

05

Coat with sesame

Dip each ball in the molasses-water mixture, then roll in toasted sesame seeds until fully coated.

06

Bake

Place cookies on the tray with a little space between them. Bake at 180°C for about 18–22 minutes, until the tops are nicely browned; adjust to your oven.

07

Cool and store

Let them sit on the tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight jar to keep them fresh for days.
