Ingredients
1. For the dough
2. For the filling
3. Powdered sugar, on top to sift
Step-by-Step Method
Prepare the oven and tray
Preheat the oven to 180°C up and down (170°C fan). Grease a 23x33 cm tray and line the bottom with baking paper if desired.
Mix the dough
Mix the flours, baking powder, salt and powdered sugar in a large bowl. Add cold butter, margarine and shortening and crumble with your fingertips until it becomes like sand.
Add egg and vanilla
Add the egg and vanilla and combine with a spatula. If the mixture remains dry, add the milk little by little; Let the dough come together but not get so wet that it softens and spreads.
Create the base layer
Put about two-thirds of the dough on the tray and press it to make a flat base. Set the remaining dough aside for the top layer.
Cook the apple stuffing
Melt the butter in the pot. Add apples, brown sugar, lemon zest and cinnamon and cook, stirring, for 8–10 minutes; Let the apple soften slightly and the sugar turn into syrup.
Combine the layers
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the base. Tear the remaining dough into pieces and sprinkle on top; Press lightly if you want.
Bake
Place the tray in the oven and bake for 35–37 minutes, until the top is a light golden color. Take it out of the oven when the edges are slightly colored.
Cool and serve
Cool the bars completely on the tray. Before slicing, sprinkle powdered sugar over it; Cut into square or rectangular shapes and serve.
