What is Turkish Coffee? Beans Used and Unique Brewing Method
Turkish coffee is prepared with finely ground Arabica beans; It offers a unique coffee experience with its brewing method and aroma.

When Turkish coffee is mentioned, finely ground and a very special brewing method usually comes to mind. So, which coffee beans are the basis of this taste? Turkish coffee is mostly made from Arabica beans. Because Arabica creates the unique flavor of Turkish coffee with its soft and aromatic taste. However, some coffee producers and coffee lovers may also add a small amount of Robusta to the mixture to add a little more density and body to Turkish coffee. In this way, the cream of the coffee becomes thicker and the taste is fuller. Liberica and Excelsa are rarely used in Turkish coffee because their taste is different and unusual. As a result, the unforgettable aroma of Turkish coffee usually comes to life with the gentle touch of Arabica beans.
What Makes Turkish Coffee Turkish?
Turkish coffee is actually not just about coffee beans. One of the most important features that makes it special is that the coffee is ground to a very fine and powdery state. This fine grinding allows the coffee to mix perfectly with water while slowly cooking in the coffee pot, revealing that famous foamy, intensely flavored structure.
So, can we make Turkish coffee by grinding the beans directly at home? Technically yes, but in practice it's a bit challenging. Because the grinding level required for Turkish coffee is quite fine and homogeneous, standard home grinders generally cannot provide this. Additionally, coffee should be freshly ground and used immediately; Otherwise, aroma loss will occur.
Therefore, specially ground Arabica beans are generally preferred for Turkish coffee. Robusta is also used in some blends to strengthen the body and cream of the coffee. Liberica and Excelsa are not used much in Turkish coffee because their taste is unusual.
As a result, Turkish coffee is a rich experience consisting not only of the beans, but also of the grinding method, brewing method and presentation.
